Job Summary

You will provide high quality project management for complex capital projects over a wide range of values from inception to commissioning and handover to the Maintenance Manager and/or the clinical service manager. This role significantly contributes to the management of the Trust’s multi-campus, multi-building estate and property portfolio.

You will work to design, specify and cost to an approved brief, delivering a completed signed-off scheme to agreed programmes on time, within budget and to specification.

Main Duties of the Job

Main duties of the role will include:

  • Assess and prepare service user briefs, identifying service requirements, objectives and Healthcare specific standards (HTMs and HBNs). Compile and obtain approval for a Project Initiation Document/brief.

  • Responsible for new works and delegated capital schemes involving both direct labour trade staff and contractors.

  • Assess feasibility of potential projects both spatially and financially, providing budget estimates within agreed timeframes, using in-house Building and Engineering Estates Officers and external professionals as required.

  • Lead on providing professional expert advice for feasibility reports and business case reports for users, Divisional Managers and the Trust’s Executive groups.

  • Deputise for the General Manager of Projects when required, including undertaking line management duties.

  • Line manage Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers and supporting Administrators on a day-to-day basis.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience (Essential)

  • Significant experience in planning and processing of construction-related projects

  • NHS and/or public sector experience with Health Technical Memorandums & Health Building Notes

  • Direct experience of project management including budget management across £350,000 – £25 million

  • Experience as project lead

Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of a degree, preferably in Building Surveying or Construction, or equivalent experience

  • Corporate membership of a relevant professional body (IHEEM, IMECHE, IEE, IIE, RICS, RIBA, CIOB, CIBSE, etc.)

Desirable

  • Prince 2 Foundation & Practitioner

Skills (Essential)

  • Demonstrable staff management skills including communication, delegation and understanding of basic employment terms

  • Significant knowledge of the construction process and all aspects of new construction and refurbishment

  • Strong project and budget management skills for complex projects

  • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation and regulations relating to planning, construction and good working practices
